Holme Valley
Holme Valley Community Active Travel Hub 2025

The Holme Valley Community Active Travel Hub was a welcoming space for people across the area to explore healthier, more sustainable ways of getting around. Funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and delivered by EPIKs as part of their Walk Wheel Ride programme, the hub ran throughout 2025 as a place to meet, learn, share and build confidence in active travel.
Located in the heart of Holmfirth, the hub supported residents and visitors of all ages and abilities. While the hub has now closed, its impact lives on through the projects, partnerships and resources created during its time.
What We Did
During 2025, the WWR Holme Valley Community Active Travel Hub supported a wide range of activities designed to make walking, wheeling and cycling easier, more inclusive and more enjoyable.
These included:
- Regular drop-in sessions offering friendly advice, route ideas and confidence-building support
- A donations rail for active wear providing items to those who needed them
- Community walks and rides for different ages and abilities
- Pop-up roadshows and stalls at local events and festivals
- Partnerships with local groups, schools and organisations
- Support for e-cargo bike use and everyday cycling
- Bike maintenance and Dr Bike sessions to help keep people on the road
- Volunteer opportunities that helped people develop new skills and give back locally
Shared Journeys Film
One of the highlights of the Hub’s work was Shared Journeys, a film capturing the voices and experiences of members of Ability Options, a group we worked with regularly to help build confidence in getting out and about and exploring independently.
The film celebrates everyday journeys, personal achievements and the sense of connection that active travel can bring to communities. Thanks to everyone involved you can read more about the project and making of the film here.

Working with Our Partners
The Holme Valley Community Active Travel Hub would not have been possible without the support, collaboration and creativity of our partners.
Throughout 2025, we worked alongside local organisations, community groups, councils and transport partners who share a commitment to making walking, wheeling and riding more accessible, inclusive and enjoyable in the Holme Valley. These partnerships helped shape our events, activities, resources and outreach, from community walks and roadshows to films, maps and everyday travel support.
By working together, we were able to reach new audiences, respond to local needs and build stronger connections across the valley.
Thank You
The Holme Valley Community Active Travel Hub was shaped by the people who used it, the walkers, wheelers, riders, volunteers, partners and curious passers-by who popped in for a chat and a cuppa.
Thank you to everyone who took part, shared their time, stories and energy. And, a huge thank you to our funders West Yorkshire Combined Authority for making it all possible.
The biggest thank you to Gina Wharton, our Engagement Coordinator, the impact and success of the hub was down to her dedication, energy and the relationships she built across the community.
While the hub doors are now closed, the journeys continue.

The journeys continue in Huddersfield and Batley & Spen Valley, explore our Walk Wheel Ride work in these areas to get involved.
