Guided Walk to Kilner Bank Nature Reserve

17 May 2025

From 11:00 until 15:00

FREE

Our walk will start at Huddersfield Train Station and follow a circular route up to Kilner Bank. This walk is just over 4 miles and takes in a variety of terrain; town centre streets, side roads and footpaths.

Steps lead us up from the Riverside Way footpath at Moldgreen onto Kilner Bank Road. We will take time to explore Kilner Bank, looking at wildlife, plants and natural history of this area. From here we will take the footpath along the ridge of Kilner Bank onto the closed road and back down to the Stadium Leisure Complex. The pace will be very steady, and stops will be frequent. It is suitable for those who like a slow pace and frequent opportunities to talk.

If you wish to stop for a comfort break there will be opportunies at the Stadium Leisure Complex and Leeds Road Retail Park.

You can choose to shorten your walk by taking one of the frequent busses from Leeds Road, back to Huddersfield Bus Station (this journey takes just under 10 minutes).

On crossing Leeds Road we can stop at Dixon's Milk Ices if you fancy an ice cream (please bring some money with you). We will then return to the town centre along the Huddersfield Broad Canal Towpath.

You are invited to join the conversation and add your stories as we walk. Share your relationship with Huddersfield's wild spaces and what they mean to you. Discover new ways of exploring the town and build a greater knowledge of how to interpret the landscape.

The walk will be led by EPIKS Ranger, Gilly who has a specialist knowledge of urban wild landscapes.
